It’s important to make sure that your activities don’t disrupt the birds, animals, or other bird watchers you’ll encounter in the field. The American Birding Association has developed a code of ethics to help birders make good choices.

For more than 25 years the Southwestern Idaho Birders Association (SIBA) has brought together birders for field trips, lectures, and sharing bird watching updates from around Nampa.
Golden Eagle Audubon Society
Golden Eagle Audubon Society (GEAS), based in Boise, is Southwest Idaho’s chapter of the Audubon Society. They offer birding trips for all ages, monthly educational presentations, community science programs, and host the Idaho Young Birders Club for youth.
Idaho Birders Linked Electronically
IBLE is a statewide network of people interested in birdwatching and sharing their knowledge about birds with others. Members share sightings and provide information about the activities of their local birding organizations, club meetings, field trips, etc.
Idaho Birds Record Committee
The Idaho Bird Records Committee hosts a valuable website for documenting bird sightings and activities in Idaho. Advanced birders contribute towards documenting rare bird sightings in Idaho, and birders at any level can benefit from the tips, updates, and birding maps the IBRC shares.
Idaho Birding Trail from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game
Created to promote outdoor recreational opportunities and increase awareness of the state’s important wildlife resources, Idaho’s official state birding trail is available free of charge as an interactive online map and foldable regional maps available at Fish and Game offices. The Idaho Birding Trail features over 2,000 miles of trails and 300 species, with 94 sites featured in the Southwest Idaho region.
Merlin
Easily identify birds that you see or hear with the Merlin app. Merlin can use your location, the time of year, pictures, and sounds to help you identify birds. It’s a great field guide for birding, right on your phone.
eBird
Check out what bird watchers around you are reporting and discover new birding hotspots with eBird. eBird is available online and on your mobile device, so you can use it to plan a trip or while you’re out and about.
iNaturalist
iNaturalist is another great website and app that helps you identify and share birds you see, along with other animals, plants, and fungi. After identifications are confirmed by other users your reports can be used for research.
